About Us: Kushinagar Vipassana Center

A Sanctuary for Inner Peace in the Land of Enlightenment

Welcome to Dhamma Kaya, a serene refuge dedicated to the practice of Vipassana—one of India's most ancient techniques of meditation. Located in the spiritually significant town of Kushinagar, our center provides an ideal environment for self-observation and mental purification. Vipassana, which means "to see things as they really are," is a non-sectarian path that aims for the total eradication of mental impurities and the resulting highest happiness of full liberation.

At Dhamma Kaya, we invite you to take a journey inward, away from the distractions of the modern world, to discover a life of peace, harmony, and self-dependence.

Our Core Offerings

We host residential courses throughout the year, designed to guide students through the technique step-by-step:

  • 10-Day Introductory Courses: Our primary offering for both new and old students. These residential retreats follow a disciplined schedule of silent meditation, including daily discourses that explain the technique's theory and practice.
  • Short-Term Courses (Old Students): We offer 1-day and 3-day refresher courses specifically for "Old Students" (those who have completed at least one 10-day course) to help strengthen their daily practice.
  • Teenager Courses: Special residential courses designed for young people (ages 15–19), focusing on Anapana meditation to help improve concentration and manage the challenges of youth with a calm mind.
  • Children's Courses: Periodic 1-day programs for children (ages 8–12) to introduce the basics of mindfulness and ethical living in a joyful environment.

The Dhamma Kaya Experience

  • A Sacred Location: Situated near the Mahaparinirvana Temple, the center benefits from the powerful spiritual vibrations of Kushinagar, making it a profound place for deep meditation.
  • Residential Facilities: We provide simple, clean, and comfortable accommodations (single and twin-sharing) to ensure students can focus entirely on their practice.
  • Pure Vegetarian Catering: Nutritious and balanced vegetarian meals are provided to support the meditative lifestyle and maintain physical well-being during the course.
  • Noble Silence: To facilitate deep inner work, students observe "Noble Silence" (silence of body, speech, and mind) for the duration of the 10-day retreat.
  • Volunteer-Led Service: In keeping with the tradition, all courses are run solely on a donation basis. There are no charges for the teaching, accommodation, or food. Costs are met by donations from students who have completed a course and wish to share the benefits with others.

Our Vision

Our mission is to make the universal technique of Vipassana accessible to all, regardless of race, religion, or background. We strive to provide a supportive environment where individuals can develop mental clarity, emotional balance, and a compassionate heart, contributing to a more peaceful and harmonious society.
